El Sobrante has a rich history, beginning with the indigenous Huichin people who settled this area more than 3000 years ago, continuing with the Spanish conquistadors and Mexican Rancheros, and is now a vibrant, Bay Area community. During the 19th and early 20th century’s, this area was known for its ranches. A homey, semi-rural feel still remains today, even though ranch lands have mostly made way for commercial and residential developments.
Perhaps one of the most interesting or unique facts about El Sobrante is that it is the birthplace and/or home for numerous, world-famous artists and musicians – including Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Primus’s Les Claypool, and John Kiffmeyer of Green Day and even John Fogerty of CCR fame made his home here during the 70s.
